(UPDATED 5/29/08)
I have always secretly had no sympathy for famous people (Hollywood types, singers, models, etc.) with weight problems. After all, I would think, they can afford to hire someone to cook them perfectly-proportioned, calorie-counted meals. They can pay someone to come to their house and make them work out. It's easier for them than for us, I thought. But now, thanks to Seattle Sutton, it's just as easy for us!
Day One (2/25/08)
The true test of Seattle Sutton's food came Monday night when I broke out my first dinner. I was worried that it wouldn't taste very good or that I wouldn't be full or satisfied. I had made my husband and daughter spaghetti and meatballs and kept fighting the temptation to reach over and snatch a meatball off my daughter's plate (she wasn't eating it anyway). But as I started eating my egg noodles with peas, red peppers, turkey meatballs and sour cream sauce, I stopped thinking about my daughter's plate. Not only was my meal good, it was filling! And I didn't touch the open bag of chips my husband left on the table, nor did I snack the rest of the night.
Day Two (2/26/08)
Have you ever tried to count your calories? It's a confusing, laborious process that requires a scale to do it correctly. I used to have a friend who counted calories to the point that going out to dinner with her was a painful and embarrassing experience. I am not good at math and I have a hard time remembering what I've eaten and when. Being a "grazer," I just sort of eat a little all day long.
What a relief to be eating tasty meals that I don't have to shop for, cook, plan, prepare or count the calories! On Mondays, I pick up my meals--three meals a day-- to last me through lunch on Thursday. On Thursdays, I pick up meals to last me until Monday. If the Seattle Sutton location wasn't near my home (which it is, in the Central West End), I could even have the meals delivered to my house. There are no contracts to sign so I could stop at any time.
Could it be EASIER? (By the way, this morning was pumpkin flax seed granola cereal with two huge chunks of pineapple and lunch will be pizza!) And so far, no hunger pangs. And the cost per week for 21 meals? VERY reasonable. Plus, you don't have to do anything but eat.
Week One
After one week of Seattle Sutton's Healthy Eating (SSHE), I am officially three pounds lighter and wearing a belt this morning. I haven't needed a belt in quite some time! Granted, I would love to have lost TEN pounds, but that would not be healthy. Ideally, you should lose 1-2 pounds per week, so three is a bonus!
When I was at Seattle Sutton's in the Central West End, a man was picking up his meals. He told me that weight loss is not his number one goal, it's the convenience of SSHE that he likes. As a single man living alone, he would just go out to eat all the time instead of cooking and SSHE meals are delicious and actually save him money! And thus, keep him from gaining weight.
I was surfing the internet this morning and had to chuckle about a story on "Desperate Housewives" star Eva Longoria. Rumors that she was pregnant were untrue. It's just that during the writer's strike, she was at home eating too much! From People magazine: "I'm working out, I'm eating my healthy food I get prepared," she said with a sigh. "It is so much easier being in shape when you're on the show because you have a chef and the gym is right there, so you really have no excuse."
So you want to know how the Hollywood stars stay thin? They have their meals prepared for them!

23 pounds later....
I hadn't blogged about Seattle Sutton for weeks and weeks but recently got a number of emails from people wondering why I haven't updated my experience!
I've now been on Seattle Sutton for more than two months and I've lost 23 pounds. I've hit a bit of a plateau because I have been naughty and allowing myself to snack more than I did before and I'm just returning from a Memorial Weekend holiday. But I will stay on SSHE (Seattle Sutton's Healthy Eating) for a couple more weeks. My ultimate goal is to lose 30 pounds...and keep it off!!
It will be a sad day for me when I stop eating SSHE and have to go back to shopping, cooking, planning etc. my own meals and meals for the family. Sigh. Seattle Sutton is really a personal chef. The food is delicious, nutritious and healthy. It has taken so much stress out of my life! The cost is reasonable when you consider you don't have to shop and you save so much time!
Some people do SSHE for the convenience, others for the health benefit (it's excellent to help control Type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol). For those of you doing it strictly to lose weight, here's my advice. Stick with it. Eat just the meals given, no snacking or cheating. Just one warning, the first week on the program, you will be sooooo hungry. It's because you are so used to eating huge portions (that's why you're overweight to begin with...you're eating far more than you're burning off) that your stomach goes into a bit of shock.
After a week of a rumbling tummy, your stomach gets the message that it's going to have to make due with less food. And you start losing weight which gives you more willpower and incentive to keep going.
There is no magic to losing weight. There's no magic pill. It's simple--consuming fewer calories. But the execution can be tough. We’re all busy and the quickest things to prepare or pick up in a drive-thru also tend to be fattening. SSHE can not only get you on the path to weight loss and health, but remind you what a real portion should look like!
Good luck in your weight loss!
