Komen Race and Team KMOX

(posted June 22, 2008)
I am not sure I have ever been part of such a huge mass of humanity before! It was truly a sight to see tens of thousands of people pouring through the streets of downtown St. Louis. The sheer number though made it tough for Team KMOX to gather together at the start and then slowly, our team was swallowed up in the crowd until Mark Reardon and I were walking together, unable to see anyone from our group! To the members of Team KMOX that I never met or lost along the way, I apologize!

Charlie the Tortoise of Petropolis, our Team KMOX mascot, was definitely a hit. He wanted to walk (he's pretty quick!) but his handlers put him in a wagon, which Charlie seemed to want to break free from. Because he gathered such a crowd, we lost Charlie right away. I trust that Charlie finished the race just fine and I won't even try to speculate how many photos were taken of him over the course of the 5K! (There's one I took below).

Thanks again to all of our fantastic listeners who walked or ran wearing our cool camoflage t-shirts and thanks to the countless volunteers who make this event happen each year.
