This Week at the Movies: Baby Mama
"Baby Mama"--Tina Fey plays Kate Holbrook a successful VP at a organic food grocery store chain who finds out at age 37 that she can't have children and hires a surrogate named Angie played by Amy Poehler to carry the child. Fey and Poehler obviously have chemistry from the SNL days and it pays off here in a pretty decent PG-13 rated comedy.

This Week at the Movies: 88 Minutes
Al Pacino plays a Seattle forensic psychiatrist who has 88 minutes to solve his own murder. Too bad the movie didn't last only that long. This is an early frontrunner for one of the worst of 2008.

This Week at the Movies: Meet Bill
"Meet Bill"--actor Aaron Eckhart stopped by for a visit this week to talk about the movie that was originally called just "Bill" and was filmed in St. Louis two summers ago. You can listen to that interview *here*. You'll notice we don't talk much about the movie because I really didn't have the heart to tell him that the film is a total disaster. I'm pretty sure he knows.

Mark Reardon: Peter Bogdanovich
One of the most interesting films I’ve seen in the past few months---and this includes all the awards frontrunners and Oscar nominees---is Peter Bogdanovich’s documentary on Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers called “Runnin’ Down A Dream”. It’s probably best suited for true fans of Petty, but even for people who just want to hear the back story of a great American band it’s definitely worth a look.

The Oscar Nominations Have Been Announced!
Here's the complete list of Oscar nominees. If you cross check the best picture nominees with my top ten for 2007 you'll notice that the only best picture nominee out of my top five was "Atonement" and that was number six on my list!   Please make plans to join me at The Pageant on Oscar night for another Oscar Night America.

This Week at the Movies:
"No Country For Old Men"--I think we all see movies for different reasons, and I'm all for sitting in a movie theater and getting away from it all and being entertained. But for those film fans who look for a little more to chew on this isa great time of year with the awards season just around the corner.
MORE
This Week at the Movies: Lions for Lambs & Fred Claus
"Fred Claus"--who would thought that a Christmas comedy from the guy who made "The Wedding Crashers" and starring Vince Vaughn and Paul Giamatti would be so unfunny---but it is.  More importantly it's being marketed as a family movie and I would recommend leaving the kids at home.
This Week at the Movies: Bee Movie & American Gangster
“Bee Movie”—It’s this small little independent movie hardly marketed at all-----well, not exactly. Jerry Seinfeld is the voice of Barry Benson, a honeybee who after graduating from college decides to venture out of the hive for some excitement before settling down into the job of having one job for the rest of his life.
MORE

This Week at the Movies: The Kingdom
"The Kingdom”—The opening sequence of the movie might have been better suited to a film that more seriously tackles U.S. foreign policy in the middle east. It’s a great montage of the history of Saudi Arabia which sets upthe story of a terrorist attack that happens at a US facility. MORE
This Week at the Movies: In The Valley of Elah
"In the Valley of Elah"--Probably the movie with the most pre-Oscar buzz going right now, but I'm going to be honest---much of it is due to the anti-war politics in this movie from writer/director Paul Haggis (Crash). Tommy Lee Jones starsas a father trying to get to the bottom of the disappearance of his son who he's told is AWOL upon returning from a tour of duty in Iraq. MORE

This Week at the Movies: Superbad
"Superbad"--Maybe it's just because I'm a 42 year old man with the maturity level of an 18 year old but this is flat out one of the funniest movies in the teen comedy genre to come out in a long time. Probably since "American Pie," Jonah Hill and Michael Cera play two high school buddies determined to get a little experience with girls before heading off to college.  MORE
This Week at the Movies: Rush Hour 3 and Stardust
"Rush Hour 3"--Just when you thought the onslaught of three-quels had ended this summer along come quite possibly the worst of the season.
